how do i replace the thermostat on my 2001 taurus W/ 3.0 vulcan?

The heater is only putting out cold air on my 2001 Taurus. The engine gets to running temp kind of quickly, but is not overheating. I have been told by several people to check or change the thermostat. I have not worked on many cars in the past but can do the work myself if I know where to find the thermostat and if there are any specific things to watch out for. I know where the large hose is, going from the engine to the radiator. Please tell me that the thermostat is near the engine end and not under the plate of metal blocking my view of where the hose connects to the radiator. I cant even see that end I hope I don't have to try to work in there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for bothering to post the answer.

I got no answers, so I checked out the other related questions on this sight and was able to fix the problem in about 45 min. There is no need to respond to this question as there are others that cover some of the same problems I had.
