Hotpoint 60cm gas cooker GW 74. C367GWH?

I have a hotpoint Gw74 slot in gas cooker. Problem is the grill, when you turn and push in the control knob clockwise and ignite it, usually the control knob pops back out and the grill is on, but now the flame stops and the gas is still going. Thanks
