Help!!!! Our boot won't open on our Vauxhall Zafira?

We have a 57 reg Vauxhall Zafira, and since this horrendous weather has happened, our boot will not unlock AT ALL!!! We've tried warm water on the lock, but that hasn't worked. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to open it?

Many thanks

2010 zafira . Freezing out window washer frozen . Blew the fuse . Boot would not open. Changed fuse no7 or no8 . All good now .

Mark, December 2022
Look at wiring going into the boot from the car first. Then check your no 8 fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. Then check wiring at the actual switch.

I have a 10 plate Zafira and the boot would not open. Vauxhall wanted £115 +vat to fix it. After removing the internal panel i found that the plug had come out of the locking mechanism. Pushed it back in replaced the panel and fixed. Total time 5 mins.

I have a 57 plate Zafira and the boot won't open. The washers work and the fuses are ok. I will try to open the boot panels to see if the switch and earth wire as suggested in the comments above works.

had the same problem , booth would not open on our 08 zafira but the washer was working.
i opened the booth from the inside by removing the flat rubber plug at the bottom of the boot and inserted a large flat screwdriver and turned to open. then i removed the panels on the booth lid and found that the earth wire was cracked and coroaded up from the micro switch. i replaced section and now it works.hope this helps.

This happened to me last year so now have spare fuses in car. On my THIRD fuse already this Winter. Is there no permanent solution to the fuses blowing when trying to use the windscreen wash in very cold weather?

Lindsay Stevenson, December 2010
The fuse (No8 in the engine fuse box) is on the front wiper/boot mechanism circuit. Replace that and you'll be good to go. Did mine this morning - cost me about £1.50 and saved me loads!!! You'll have blown it trying to use the front screen-wash.

help!!! my boot on my vauxhall zafira won't close?

Got it fixed. It was the fuse. Not the cold weather!!

Thanks very much for all your help.

I have the same problem with the boot of my zafira, but the window washers are working fine! I guess the fuse must be ok then? any other ways to get the boot open?

thomas, January 2010
I experienced same problem and fixed by replacing no 8 fuse. Thanks to all people who contributed.

Keith, January 2010
You need to replace the fuse (number8) under your bonnet.

G, January 2010
I have a 56 plate Zafira and experienced the exact same problem. The boot lock and window washers run on the same fuse. In the extreme weather conditions the UK is experiencing, the washer mechanism can freeze up, either in dispensor, tubing or nozzle(s), which can blow the fuse. So if your window washers aren't working also, I'd suggest checking/replacing the fuse. I did this and presto-the boot lid opened on the first attempt!

Mrs. M Jack, January 2010
It might be more than the lock that has frozen try warm water all around the tailgate surround. Not certain if there is a key opening but gently warming up the key with a lighter and inserting into lock 2/3 times may also resolve the problem. When open put a small amout of WD40 in the lock and this should help.
