i have just moved into a house that has a stoves hob when i turn it on it just flashes 56 and wont work i do not have a manual can anyone help please

This sounds like a fault on the main PCB. Usually the electrolytic capacitors dry out going low in value and need replacing. Not a very hard job if you know somebody handy with a soldering iron. A new replacement board is usually very expensive!! so get this checked first if you can.
