How do you access the cord reel, motor, etc? Older models of the Electrolux canister vacuum cleaners had screws underneath the rubber trim on the end. All I had to do was to pop out the "bumper" or trim and the screw was right there. If my memory serves me right, I could access the motor assembly etc, by unscrewing screws located at the bottom of the bag compartment as the machine stood on its end.
