Power up without dust bag?

Should a Kirby Vac power-up without the outer dust bag? I think not due to lack of suction ability. I saw a kirby advertised, without the outer bag and it seemed like a good deal, but the ad said the vac would not power-up. Just wondering if it will be fine when a bag is attached. Thanks.

I don't know the kirby but I have repaired other cleaners with an external dust collecting bag and they have been able to power up without the dust bag connected.

Some cylinder cleaners have an interlock switch that will not allow the motor to start unless the internal dust bag is fitted - this is to prevent the inside of the machine becoming clogged up with dirt.

The suction on all vacuum cleaners is provided by a fan in a box with an inlet hole and an outlet hole. The air flow is used to cool the motor so they often have internal filters to keep the motor free from dust.

If you are considering buying a used machine then make sure the seller can demonstrate it to you in a working condition.

Good luck...
