INTERMITTENT FAULT?

We have a valiant boiler approx 15yrs old,runs like clockwork and then for some reason it will fire up and go out after a few minutes or it will fire up but not lit at all,if we run the hot tap it will come on and run fine,this is an intermittent prblem,any ideas????
