My auto gearbox is stuck in Drive and selector will not move. Is there a linkage problem that is easy to fix?

my vauxhall omega 2.2 petrol auto has become very stiff for some reason running up through the gears ie park-n - drive etc
will this be expensive to repair please

Its possible the cable has popped off the linkage (on top of gearbox). If so the lever will not move as the range switch is not in the 'N' or 'P' position. Only when in those positions and brake applied will the lever move. There is a release button under the gear lever quadrant cover. If there is still a problem, post again with your findings.
