Whenever I have tried to use my car cigerette lighter socket it just fuses everything in my car like my stereo etc. I have tried to plug an air compressor etc in it and the same thing happens everytime. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how I could fix it. Please bear in mind I know nothing about cars.

my son had same problem on his corsa. inside the lighter was damaged and shorted out blowing fuse when sat nav was used. once it was replaced fault cleared.a bit tricky to replace. cost 3.00 from scrapyard.
