transmission very jerkey in forward gears?

hi! i have a huskee mower ,transmission won,t work properly, very jerkey clunking . i took it apart and checked all gears ,there are no broken teeth or missing parts ,shifter works properly and theres plenty of grease ,its belt drive so no clutch.belt is new .could it be in the axle shafts where the problem is ? it was the only thing i didn,t check while it was open. thanks for any help

I've experienced this problem myself found out that the plastic pinion gear and drive gears are worn and do not mesh well thus when under load causing the jerking issue. Might as well consider replacing the rear differential before it fails completly.

Does this happen in reverse? if not this would tend to rule out the axles and diff gears, is it in one gear or all the forward gears? is the external disc brake binding? ( in neutral does it push easily )
