GE Washer won't change cycles, how do I fix this?

This is a GE model that is around 5 years old or so..turn dial that turns fine. Just recently it's decided to stop "switching" between cycles..wash, rinse, spin. It needs to be manually done. The dial turns fine, but as you can imagine, this is a pain. I've googled and haven't had any luck. Can anyone offer any suggestions or have had this happen to them? Thank you much in advance!

If you turn the washer on and the timer does not move it sounds like a bad timer motor. You have to replace the whole timer if this is your problem.
