Can't start my lawn mower this season?

My lawn mower was purchased new last year, I can't start it this year. It has gas and oil. It is a Murry 4.5 push mower. Will changing the spark plug help?

It was used very little last year.

If you didnt run all the gas out last mowing season and it sat in it all winter. You may need to clean the carb real good gas will tend to varnish up in it after a few months.

I would firstly check the air filter for blockages, if its very dirty then replace it. Also try altering the choke settings (if it has one) as it could be flooding.

If it was new last year I would think that the spark plug is OK. If you can remove it easily then it may be worth checking to see if it's gummed up, clean it up with wire brush and white spirit.
