'Empty Water Light' , stays on?

My Indesit IS70C is showing an 'Empty water light' even though there has never been any water in the condensing box.(ie, the machine is condensing to an external drain.) Consequently the heater will not work to dry the clothes any more. So just cold damp clothes. Any ideas? Cheers Peter.
