my 96 406 saloon had same prob, did u smell burning b4??
remove carpet under glove box to get behind glove box, you should see a large round black cylinder towards the centre console, this is the heater blower. you are looking for an electrical connector that connects 4 wires. 2 thick wires, 1 green 1 grey? go into this white box and come out as 1 black and 1 red wire try wiggling these wires with the engine running and the fan blower switched on. if it works the connection is faulty. If the white connector is scorched it will heat up dangerously so you need to do this 10 minute job (its like wiring a plug. v easy to fix as basic spade connector, FIRSTY TURN THE IGNITION OFF ( THIS KILLS THE POWER IN THE WIRE) cut the wires before they enter the box, strip them and use a block connector to connect the green wire to the black wire. THEN USE ANOTHER BLOCK CONNECTOR TO CONNECT THE RED WIRE TO THE GREY?? WIRE I THINK. hey presto hopefully its fixed.
