stop switch?

stop switch (McCulloch chain saw)won't stop engine!
joe, January 2010
Joe, mine stopped working too, found it was the metal contact that the switch slides onto had bent away. Remove the cover and slightly bend contact plate up, then when you slide switch you'll feel it locate onto the plate. The manual states in an emergency you can stop the saw by pulling the choke on.

Make a continuity test of the two wires from the unit, one will be an earth cut out the other is an earth return, if the wires are ok, make a continuity test through the switch, if this is ok, make a fresh wire from the ignition unit terminal, and take it to earth, with the engine stopped and the plug out crank the engine, if there is still a spark you need to replace the ignition unit, as this is a saftey issue the saw should not be used until this is sorted out.
