if you have located the filter then you will see you can not clean it but instead replace it it is a canaster type on petrolwhich screws on and on diesels it is also quicker to replace and better for your fuel system to replace..if you still want to clean it then with petrolfilter use petrol or similar and the diesel filter use diesel to swill the filters through afew times
but in my opinion replace them every time its cheap and safe and better for your fuel system
