when trying to download MMS i receive a message which says internet profile error please check settings....what does this mean?

It means you don't have the correct GPRS settings for your network.
If you go to your network's website you should be able to find them so you can input them manually, or you may even be able to get them sent directly to your handset via a service message.

If you get stuck call customer services, preferably from a different phone.
