How can I fix my kenwood chef model A901?

My Kenwood Chef food mixer runs at full speed, no matter whar the speed setting is. I suspect the controlled rectifier (or triac) may have failed but can't find any details of the part. It is a RCA HV7744. I would find a schematic useful if anybody has one, rather than having to strip the machine completely.

could you tell me the four colors of wiring and their positions please

Thanks H Brunt & JS,

I have a Kenwood Electronic KM200 but I think the speed controller is the same as the a901. I bought the triac
BTA08-600B from Maplin for approx. £1.30. All the other components on the circuit board tested ok. Capacitors were not shorting, and there was not sign of swelling. The diodes tested OK. The triac is described as the speed controller in other forums. I de-soldered the part and soldered in the new one. It worked first time.

I would recommend using a de-soldering tool though. (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97040&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=DESOLDER&doy=14m5).

I now have 2 working :) Kenwood chefs - as I bought an A901 and fixed a blown capacitor on that.

The BTA08-600B triac definitely works. I had to replace the 220 ohm resistor and both capacitors as well. I bought all of the parts at Maplin.

Also BT137-600F triac will work. Perhaps also you could try BTA08-600B (from Maplin).

smash it with a rolling pin

use a phillps bt138f-600 triac - it worked for me ;) - i had it around - the cap over the AC is a .15uF 250V, the other is .047uF - resitors 220 on triac control and the other 56 Ohm 1/4W
