I have john deere 265 garden tractor with sloopy steering?

I have replaced the tie rod ends and the tie rod however the steering wheel mechanism is not tight. I have play in the steering and you really notice it when travelling down the road at top speed. It wanders and you have to turn the wheel about 1/4 turn to get it to correct. What should I be looking at to repair this and is it possible for a novice with lots of tools.

Use a torque wrench and tighten the tie rod at the specificed torque # (see your manual.) Make sure your front wheels are aligned prefectly straight and that the steering wheel is also aligned to be perfectly straight before tightening the necessary bolts.
