Why does my Citroen C5 cut out whilst driving?

2 weeks ago my car (Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi) cut out whilst driving, i had a diagnostic check done and it showed "fuel pressure regulator" and "fuel rail pressure" also a warning message appeared on my screen it read "ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT".
I WAS TOLD TO CHANGE MY REAR FUEL PUMP IN THE FUEL TANK, i had the pump renewed but the problem still occurred, (usually after 15 miles).
I had another diagnostic check and it showed fuel rail pressure, and i was told to renew the main fuel pump at the front. What is the problem? what if it recurs again? and should i spend more on the main pump?

YOUR CITROEN C5 CUTS OUT AFTER ABOUT 3-5 MLS ....your problem is a temperature problem, due to where the coil pack is situated. so do not change your coil pack or your inner fuel tank fuel pump, you are wasting your money. have an hole drilled into the thermostat so that the engine takes a little longer to get to temperature and have the fan switch bypassed so that the fan is always on. i know its not the right way about fixing things, BUT BELIEVE ME, PROBLEM SOLVED.

we had the same problem. dont waste money on fuel pumps/fuel rails or coil packs. it is a temperature problem with the coil pack were it is situated. change the thermostat for a winter one or drill an hole or two in the original and have the radiator fan wired so that the fan cuts in straight away (on all the time) PROBLEM SOLVED.

i had exactly this problem, but was not willing to spend loads of money been thrown at it from a main dealer so took it to a local diesel spesh, prob was the filter on the fuel pressure regulator the one on the pump. He cleaned it out replaced it and hey presto problem sorted.

contact Citroen and explaine who tested it as I think some garages interpret the diagnostic form as a type of price list.
Your best bet is to contact Citroen main company not the dealership or garage.
Tell them exactly as you've expertly put here and anything else you have as amunition throw that in and then see what they say you may be lucky and for good publicity if the vehicle is not too old get it done at half price or even free in the present financial climes.
