The door won't open until it is empty. you need to advance it manually to the end of a rinse cycle so that it will empty and then let it go into the spin. you won't be able to open the door until it gets to a number 1 on the dial and is empty of water. I have had my BWM20 for 8 years and it's still going strong except for the occasional blockage.
If it wont empty automatically then you will have to empty it via the drain pipe at the bottom of the machine but beware it pumps a lot of water out, you will need to be prepared. hope this helps.
