Battery dying on peugeot speedfight 2 100cc?

A couple of weeks ago the bike died while i was riding it. when i tried to start it (electric ignition) each attempt sounded weaker and weaker untill it didnt even try and kick over. then i tried the kick start and broke it because it just grinds now :(. i charged the battery but it didnt work.

i bought a new battery and spark plug and the bike worked fine for a week until yesterday when it died while riding it again and does the same when trying to start it. it has plenty of fuel and 2-stroke.

what causes this and what are the solutions?

thanks for any advice given.

if your kickstart is ginding it is likely due to the pinion gear sheared it is a simply operation to change it. Remove the cover by undoing the securing bolts, these are of 2 diffferent lengths so when reassemling replace the shorter bolts first this ensures you don't damage the bolt heads by putting a overlength bolt in wrong boltholes.
Once you have removed the cover you will expose the end of the kickstart, this resembles a half moon, you will notice a smaller gear called a pinon gear with a large spring holding it in place.simply remove this pinion gear, take off spring.Replace the pinion gear with the correct size. there is 2 different sizes, count the number of teeth .Reverse procedure to reassemble.simple...

thanks for that, im going to try the multimeter tomorrow (05/02/10) and ill post up what it showed. if one or both of these parts have gone, what sort of price am i looking at to replace them and can i fit them myself?

gary the bike isnt charging,it has a charging system which consists of a charging coil in the stator assembly and a regulator /rectifer that regulates the voltage to 14.4 volts max and rectifies it to direct current(dc) and not alternating current(ac).so if its a good new battery and your riding it far enough for it to take a charge then its one of the above thats not doing it job i reckon.get the voltage accross the battery terminals checked with a multimeter while its running on dc and see what its creating.
