have got megane convertable 05, had headgasket for few months as was drinking water had mmegane for 4 months and had to top up water 2x then found out now its headgasket as getting into cyclinder 1 and misfires, garage suggested steel seal for time to get money and so did put it through with system as normally but did work after letting it settle for bit but wasnt long enough as game back then tried second time and hasnt worked so going to flush entire system oi+water and fill clean and try one more time any suggestions on if wise to try again with clean system its ok when cold but when heats up it starts. will clean and let it heat up normal then cold completly and do this few times and hope it settles and works. never trust these but dont have 600-700 :(

has anyone got any answers on this?! Lots of people trying it... not too many results

About to try steel seal on my Rover 45 1.4, head gasket not completely blown but all signs lead to that demise...so will post back results soon! The vehicle showed hints in this direction when purchased 6 weeks ago for £400 (above average condition) so rather then spend more than that on a repair and compared with other more temporary products then this one looks promising.

I've got a Freelander with a cracked head after doing what I thought was a head gasket repair ( didn't have the head pressure tested ... My own fault for that ) and the uk have stated better way of using it !

1,Flush through the system with water + empty.
2,use etheleyne glycol antifreeze and mix 2 litres of water with the bottle of steel seal then add 1 litre of antifreeze (2year version) + mix.
3,pour into system then top up with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water and tighten cap back on
4,start engine and run to temperature.
5,stop engine and leave 1hour to cool.
6, repeat steps 4 + 5 for 3 times.
7, run your car as normal.

Touch wood this did the trick and now it has at least given me time to get money together to eventually replace the head !

I tried it on my MGF and it definately did not work and after spending £660 on proper job I couldn't be bothered to claim back the £30, I think they probably bank on that.
Interesting that it assures you on the packaging that it works!!

I have just put it into my daughters s reg punto, oil is chocolate milkshake ,so we know it more than likely the head gasket, will let you know if it works

Did this work?

I can honestly say after my wife bought a 2000 punto with head gasket gone!! Yes I did have a go at her for buying something without me there and the heap of junk it was. £600+ was what all 3 quotes were. So I gave steel seal a go. Had loads of back pressure so found cylinder causing prob and ran it on 3 pots. Didn't sound too good but if you do what it says on the leaflet you get with it, It works a treat. Hope this helps

i've just orderd one after reading a few reviews, i have to say i don't have other choises. I'm not willing to spend £600 to get it done properly as my car, witch is a renault megane 1998 r reg has past 130k without any engine problems so far and I just want to run it for another few months. The engine starts like when you've got one wet sparkplug but after a 30 seconds it's back to normal again. The water level droped consistently in the past two days, with moderate steam coming out the exhaust. Oil it's not badly contaminated so i hope steel seal will do the job.
I'll post here after i've tryed it. :) i can only hope.
