handbrake light on dash?

Y reg 306 LX D handbrake warning light illiminated.

brake fluid ok, brakes ok, all brakes have been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. car is not fitted with pad wear indicators, ABS does not work. light brightens when handbrake applied.

any ideas.

Check the switch on the brake fliud resevoir, it might be stuck giving a false low fluid warning which would also explain the ABS not working, try disconnecting the plug on top of the resevoir, if the light goes out the switch is duff, if this is OK disconnect the wires from the handbrake switch, as this giving a false "handbrake on" will also kill the ABS

A fuse is like a switch - if it's intact then current can flow - if it's blown no current can flow. Your light is on so current is flowing so it can't possibly be a fuse issue.

When you apply the handbrake the light appears to work properly but when the brake is off it glows with less brightness - therefore it is getting less voltsge. Either the handbrake switch is defective and is allowing some current through when it should not - or - the circuit to the lamp is picking up stray voltage from a shrot of some kind some where.

the handbrake light is supost to come on when you apply the handbrake, its just to let you know that the handbrakes on so you dont damadge the engine when u try to pull away, but could be a Fuse
