how do i check the oil pump operation and how do i increase the flow when its derestricted,the piston was nakared and had low compression so i presume the vacuum was low maybe not opening the oil pump fully,engine running very weak as well which did the piston in,luckily barrel is ok,will a new peston fix the problem.

hi,firstly the pump is driven off the crankshaft and cannot be altered to pump more oil its relevant to revs,you can check its working by seeing if oil is being pumped out out of it at the carb end of the oil injection hose,just cover the hole in the pipe union with your while you look at the end of the pipe to see if its coming out it will need to be running,dont do it for long though if you cant see it for 30-40 seconds then put the pipe back on and bleed the oil pump by undoing the small bleed screw on top of the pump,the pump is just under the exhaust where it bolts to the barrel.then re check the flow at the carb and if its still not working then providing you have of course got oil in the tank the pump or drive gear is faulty.tp give the bike some more oil juss add a capfull of oil to the fuel tank and make sure you rock the bike back and forth before you use it everytime to mix it up.
