Landrover series 3 1976?

Ignition went dead when i switched on the lights and the engine stopped. Absolutely no ignition lights or sign of life.

sounds like alternator isn't charging, and battery has gone flat first thing to do is check battery voltage [does ign light work,if not this may be the cause of not charging-if this is the problem]
