central heating noisy?

our central heating and hot water is making a lot of clanging and banging.
i have drained the system twice fitted a new pump but it is still making the same racket and the radiators down stairs no longer get hot. but the water seems to be overheating i think a thermostat has stopped working but i dont know where it is or how to find it we have a back boiler
