I have a 1.25 L Zetec 16valve Ford Fiesta.P reg.Ihave fitted a new fan belt but am unaware of how to tension it.The belt runs around all pulleys ribbed side in and round what i assume is the tensioner plain side in.

Hi, Bob has given you duff info, the belt has an automatic tensioner it is nearest to the back of the engine bay near the top, the ribbed side of the belt passes over the tension wheel, you need a spanner to turn the bolt in the centre to release the tension then pass the belt over the wheel then release the spanner and it will tension the belt to the correct tension, if you would like a picture of how the belt should be routed contact me on nige110162(at symbol)hotmail.co.uk

You need to undo the alternator bolts slightly, then using a sturdy pice of wood you need to lever the alternator back agaist the bolt slides, as the belt tightens re-tighten the bolts, don't over tension the belt...or take it to kwikfit and flutter your lashes and they will do it for free :)
