Replacing Cartridge on Gainsborough Ambassador Shower?

Hi.
Few problems with the shower and think the cartridge needs checking/replacing. Now do I twist it, turn it, screw it or just pull it?

My daughter has the same shower in her flat and has a similar problem that needs the cartridge removing to fix. Did you ever find out how to remove it?
