Going to work one morning my clio stopped as if my battery had been disconnected but all my dash lights where lit tryed to turn engine but got a spining noise from the engine read many forums with same symtoms some saying it the starter motor or a white wire friends say its my cam shaft can anyone shed a bit of light and point me in the right direction cheers its a clio Rsi 1600 w reg

Check that the cam-belt has not broken.

It is most probably the starter ours used to do the same sometimes,it can happen every so often,put it in second or third gear ignition OFF and push it a couple of feet then try it,most engines stop in one of two positions and the starter ring gets worn more it those spots,combined with a worn bendix on the starter you get this happening.
