clutch pedal slipping off pin on a 2003 Ford Fiesta?

I dont know much about cars so I dont know how serious the problem is. My 03 Fiesta Zetec has a problem with the clutch where the pedal is slipping off the pin at the top. When this happens the clutch doesn't work and the car will stall, or if waiting at lights it will happen and you can't select a gear leaving an unhappy que behind you. I can lean down and push it back on( it's at the top of the clutch pedal) but it will do it again a short while later. There seems to be some fluid leaking in the footwell also.
I just don't want to get ripped off at a garage can anybody help please?

I have just had this problem - 19th May 2010 - the pedal gets its tension from the master cylinder - a rod connects the cylinder to the pedal - a pin on the rod fits into a hole in the pedal lever - a clip (allegedly) keeps them together - on my car the pin became detached from its hole in the clutch lever - I could not see the remains of the clip in the footwell - I suspect it fell off months ago - I put the pin back in the hole and fitted a plastic cable tie in an attempt to keep the pin in place - it was an awkward job until I removed the grey plastic trim below the steering column - 4 screws.

There was a recall to have the clip fitted
Check with your local ford dealer if your car is effected
