Where does the black rubber seal go in Fisher & Paykel TD918 dishwasher? ?

My Fisher & Paykel TD918 dishwasher recently displayed an F1 error code mid-cycle and would not turn off/empty. The beeping would only stop when I turned the power off at the fuse box and would immediately resume once the power was restored. I took out the stainless steel mesh filter at the bottom of the machine to check the filters and to remove the excess water that remained in the machine. After emptying all water and allowing the machine to completely dry the F1 error code ceased to display and the machine stopped beeping. I have now started reassembling the machine but now have a problem fitting the black rubber ring seal back in. My memory was that the seal sat around the cream tube in the center of the machine above the mesh filter. It fits well in this position and appears to create a seal with the gray fitting that attaches the machine's sprinklers with the water supply at the bottom of the machine via the cream pipe. However with the seal in place it is not possible to use the small, U-shaped, gray plastic strip that holds the gray fitting in place on the cream pipe.

Is anyone able to confirm that this is where the black rubber ring seal goes, and if so, how I should go about putting the gray fitting back in place?

Many thanks.
