Iveco 35-10 classic parking brake shoe adjustment?

Are these shoes supposed to be automatically adjusted? They seem to have a ratchet, or gear wheel which the return coil spring is in contact with.

If they are not automatic, can they be adjusted without dismantling the hub again?

I wondered about that, lots of axle and leafspring mounts to hinder the operation, but I guess with a lot of swearing and strained muscles it may be possible!

there is a grommet covering access hole in back plate just above axle, you will need a bent screwdriver or similar, will be a bit easier with wheels off -but still awkward to do! but you dont need hubs off.
