Micra K11 heated rear screen not working?

Hi,

I've got a '99 Micra (K11). The heated rear screen has stopped working. The fuse is OK, and the light on the switch illuminates when pressed. I've checked the screen contacts with a multimeter. The ground terminal is good, but there is no voltage across the screen. Tested with the engine running of course. Any ideas on how to test the wiring from the switch to the rear tailgate? Looks like I've got to strip out the head lining - surely not!!! Wires at the tailgate hinge appear to be OK - I've been told this is the likeliest place for a break, but it seems fine. Any advice please!!

Hi,

Fixed it. Despite the man at the garage saying that the wires at the tail gate hinge were OK, and the car needed a full strip down (major $$$), I took a look myself. Guess what - the 12v wire was broken, and the earth was hanging on by one strand! Two minutes with some wire crimps and all is OK again. If anyone else experiences this - simply checkout the rubber grommet where the tailgate wires pass from the chassis to the tailgate. Pull through the wires, and presto - you'll see your break. Reckon this is a Micra design fault!

check fuse box and relays , a rear heater screens will operate off a relay due to the current demand required.
