Do you have to change all four coils if only one is faulty?

I recently took my 06 plate Renault Clio to a Renault dealership... It turned out that one of the ignition coils is faulty, and that I would have to pay £250 for them to do the work... I was under the impression that u only need to change the faulty coil... Do I need to have all four changed or can I just change the one that is faulty?

Please help, I have no idea about cars.

renault use coil sticks or coil pencils.there are 4 of these and if this is what you need changing you can buy and fit them in singles around £15.its usually advised to fit all 4.

Hi, did the dealer say coil or HT leads, if your car has been running poorly it could be either or both! There is normally one coil to four HT leads and a module that supplies voltage to the coil. BUT, I do not know if the Clio has a module, sorry. Each of these four leads terminate onto a spark plug. Can you get a second opinion? it's a lot of money if it's only a faulty HT lead. HT = High Tension. Good luck.
