You might wish to see if the air line from the exhaust which presurises the fuel tank in order to force fuel to the carb has perished? Mine had and I have just fixed it!

Sounds like a fuel related problem, drain the fuel and fill with fresh mix, clean/replace the fuel filter in the tank, if this fails a carb service will be the next thing to do.
