How do you replace the power cable on Dyson DC04?

How do you replace the cable on a Dyson DC04, first problem seems to be getting at the motor, second possible problem I might face, how is the cable secured, screws or solder?

Forget the Dyson site - the usual disclaimer about competent electricians, hence cannot give advice etc.

Advice below is how I did it - but be careful as the bits are held on by flimsy clips that break all too easily (sums up my DC03 experience - will not be buying another).

As in my case the cable sheath had split just at the cable entry point, I just shortened the flex and refitted. It was too damned short to start with, so little loss in convenience, as still have to use an extension lead.

Ignore Charles.... Dyson will want £55.00 from you... they do not recommend you open the machine and will try and book a service call. The site is average and the Free help is limited...

The hardest part is getting the on/off button off the dc04... The inside of the button which is nearest the frame has a little opening, insert a pointed object to release the little clasp holding the button in and lever upwards and Jackpot its off.. next unscrew the little star screw which you see and now lift off the housing.. IMPORTANT>> remember how it all fits, as it has to go back in the housing that way or you will have problems putting it back.. VERY IMPORTANT**** Blue to Blue Brown to Brown.. I can supply new and reconditioned parts for all makes of Dyson and offer free phone help for fitting of your part 07787888452 or email me deepklean@btconnect.com good luck

Hi, Just go to www.dyson-online.com and then click on ‘HELP & SUPPORT’ then choose either ‘Hints & Tips’ or ‘Technical Advice’. The site is fantastic. Good luck.
