will crank once when cold if it starts will run fine till shut off
then wont crank barely turns. battery and solenoid, grounds tight..from what I read looks like the brushes in the starter. Looking for illistrated instructons on the starter brush replacement and r & R from motor.

Remove body pannels from both sides (if lawn tractor) Then remove both spark plugs. Next disconnect the power cable from the starter.

Now you must remove the top cover plate from the engine. Also on the starter side of the engine, you must remove the protective plate covering the cyclender plate. Not hard, but about 14 screws in all. The oil filler clamp (two screws) must come off as well as any cable/hose holders.
And for good measure, remove the air filter so you can see the two small screws on either side of the air filter. Once you have removed all screws, the top cover can be removed, exposing the flywheel.

Remove the 1/2 inch bolt the you can plainly see attaches the starter to the engine. Then look under the flywheel and see the second 1/2 inch bolt. Remove it with a open end 1/2 inch wrench.
This takes time as there is not much space to turn the wrench. But it can be done.

When the second bolt is off, you will be able to remove the starter. Good Luck, this you can do.
