Ford Fiesta - misfiring?

Hello - first post, need help!

I have an 02 Ford Fiesta Freestyle with 40k on the clock. It has served me well until Friday when the engine warning light came on. The car seemed to be lacking power and didn't accelerate with as much power as normal. I took it to a garage, who diagnosed faulty spark plugs, the leads from the spark plugs and coil pack. They replaced it all.

A day later, and the problems are back. The engine management light is back on, and the car has very little power. It may also be my imagination, but I also think the speedometer may be overestimating the speed I'm going.

I'm taking the car back to the garage tomorrow, but in the meantime wanted to know if (from my very amateurish description) if you had any ideas what it may be?

Thanks for reading all this.

97 1300 fiesta Encore OHV 110,000 miles missing when cold at low revs and under load even when hot .
If I loose a gear 4th to 3rd etc and hoof it it runs ok, plugs have done at least 40k, the other jobs have been done at service

Search the problem on here, the problem is a dodgy cluster.

ive a 1300lx 1997 fiesta ohv engine and had similar problem..stalling jerky acceration power loss misfire under load ..changed coil ,leads, plugs ,idle valve drove me nuts for 3 months untill i cleane d the lambda sensor leads and throttle sensor leads with fine emery cloth and sprayed wd40 ...seemed to cure it power back no stalling !..my exhaust was sooty now it normal grey colour..so whether the o2 sensor was at fault i dont know ...worth looking at as the lambda sensor sends a signal to the ecu and its often not looked at with this problem.....i might change the fuel filter as matter course but cars been fine for the last week

Thanks for that. I don't know if they hooked it up or not. I'm thinking (now) that they didn't.

It's funny you mention the lambda sensor - a lot of trawling through the web looking at similar problems has brought a lambda sensor fail up as a probable cause.

Did the garage use a diagnostic code reader to find the problem or did they just go ahead and replace the items in the hope it would fix the problem??

As to the speedo, the sensor on the gearbox either works or it does'nt it would'nt suddenly start over-reading

The engine fault light normally is an indication of a sensor or valve failing, get the garage to either show or tell you what fault codes are registered in the ecu, they will be a P followed by four numbers eg P0150 which means "lambda sensor 1" at fault, then if the fault continues post a new question with these recorded fault codes for further diagnosis
