Sewing Machine Motor with power but axle not rotating?

I took off the under cover of my sewing machine. There is power going into the motor and is making sound when the foot controll is pressed. But the axle from the motor that drives the belt is not moving therefore the belt is not moving the machine. What's wrong and how can I fix this.

Hi Dane and Ken,
My Singer Samba 6 started sewing very slowly and then stopped. The wheel was very stiff to turn. After removing panels, cleaning out fluff, I've found that when I removed the belt off the smaller wheel (I guess that this is the motor) I can move the wheel around really easily. Does this mean the motor has packed up? Does the foot pedal affect this?
Thanks in advance for your help. Rachel.

Hello Dane,
If you have a buzzing sound coming from the motor but nothing moving the chances are there is thread stuck in the raceway, to make sure the motor is working release the stop motion as if to wind a bobbin and see if the balance wheel turns, if it does then stuck thread is probably the problem, if you post on here again please give me your make and model it will be easier to sort out any problem.
Ken
