I have an Accenta iDeal control system which I had fitted in '98. I seem to be getting a reoccurring problem, for no obvious reason I keep having the alarm go off and the tamper light show on the key pad. Any ideas on how to isolate this zone as it is not used anyway.

managed to get a friend of a friend who is an alarm enginer to fix it. Its always the last person you ask who knows the answer.

TAMPERRR oh no such a pain i dont know why they invented tamper switches etc

this is most likely the bell box if its one of them old bell boxes its probably startin to fail

but first open the main panel the alarm will sound but just enter your code look for tamp in the panel and possibly green and white wires will go into the two terminals take the two wires out and cut about 5 cm of one of the wires you pulled out and loop where the two terminals went in

now replace the main panel and there might be a bleep and day will come back on or it might still be flashing tamper but press reset and see if theres any diffrence if there is fantastic if not then you need to visit your bell box and investigate any thing that looks like it waring away but there will be a silver tamper switch could be on the bottom left or right hand side make sure thats not broken and its fine check where the wires go into the board and none are loose but personally if you think the bell box is shabby and it looks CRAP and old

its easy to replace and i can help you with that

but anyways if it works brill if it dosent get back to me and you may need a new bell box
