Changing Drain Pump on Meloni 016625 Washer/dryer?

I've received a new drain pump for my Meloni 016625 built in washer- dryer but the thin tube on the filter section does not go all the way through to the Filter chamber- on the broken one- it appears to do so (I think this could be the pressure switch tube but I'm not sure.)The pump is a Plaset and on the electrical section has the id :- COD.7402/51971 240v AC -50Hz & on the plastic protecting the mains spades says "Plaset spa Italy".
It's also identified as an association with Indesit on the spares catalogue I purchased it from. Should the tube go thru to the chamber? ie do I have to knock the plastic thru with a thin rod? or can the fact that my old pump won't drain be due to this tube (on the old pump)-or precisely how does the thin tube affect the operation of the drain pump?

Thursday 4th March 2010. I have discovered that I had ordered the WRONG pump!!-my Pump filter housing has 4 tubes coming from it-not 3! Sorry all. I've now fixed my machine (I'd reversed the hose from the drum and the drain hose on the pump accidently which didn't allow the pump to drain out-there was nothing wrong with my old pump!) Also the thin tube queried originally is NOT used on my machine- so I still don't know what it's purpose is (nor do I need to know). In case anyone out there has a Meloni 016625 machine it actually is recognised by it's New World Label:- New World SG12TX Washer Dryer-mine is about year 2001.Also my pump is a Plaset spa Italy and code on pump is COD.7402/61505 230-240v ac 50hz . Hope that's helpful to someone out there.
