Broken Handle - Dishlex Global 300?

Hi,
I'm really hoping someone can give me some advice.
Our Dishlex Global 300 dishwasher has had a broken handle for over a year now and we've been unable to get into it. (I't still filled with my dishes!)
My hubby refuses to hire someone to come look at it and I'm completely fed up with washing by hand!!!
Can someone please tell me how on earth 'I' can fix it? I need to be able to open the dishwasher so I can then hopefully replace the broken handle/spring/what ever it is.
Help!!
Please!!!
Before I do something drastic!!
lol

Just fixed mine, it's easy. Remove the top 6 screws on the inside of the door to release the control panel section, pull that out and down to reveal the inside of the handle assembly, there are 2 screws at the base, remove them and unplug the 2 plugs on the left. Now remove the entire handle assembly. I'm guessing the plastic mounts for the spring have broken, hence the problem. Google dishlex global 300 door handle assembly for images or look it up on Ebay to see exactly where the spring goes, I used thin copper wire fixed it to one end of the spring (which is a strip of metal) wrapped it around the body of the assembly then fixed it to the other end of the spring to hold it firmly in place. Re-install.

Fixing this depends how handy you are.
First plug the machine from the power point don't just turn it off!
Then turn off the water to the machine at the isolation tap.
Open the door fully, and undo all the Phillips head screws around the rim of the stainless steel door liner ad slide it out of the way so you can get at the inner top half of the door.
Take a picture with your mobile or digital camera. Just so you won't forget.
From here there are two ways you can go.
One. Online you can buy a complete unfitted white control panel for about $60.00. It's pretty self evident that you have to remove all the switches etc and fit them to the new panel. Do it gently, a bit at a time, don't force the old plastic, and it won't take long. Reassemble, be cautious with any electrics (see below)
Two. You can use the old panel without removing anything. Go to Bunnings or a hardware chain and buy a handle which is 90mm between fixing screws and a couple of flat washers, gal if possible. Also get two nuts for each handle thread. The handle threads will be 90 mm apart.
Drill a couple of holes 90mm apart. Here's where you need a bit of judgement. I'll assume you've fitted a handle to a drawer.
The holes need to be approximately on each side of where the handle has broken. There's room at the back for the washers. The washers must be fitted to spread the load exerted when the handle is pulled.
Then fit the handle fitting the washers first, then one nut on each side. Use the second nut as a lock nut. You could use nuts with nylon locking.
Reassemble in reverse order, as they say. Make sure any electrics are not in contact with any of you metal screws or get pinched between the pieces you assemble. Pay attention to detail Do not be heavy hande when tightening anything. Gentle and a nice tight fit.
You've got electrics and water here. They're dead dangerous, if you aren't confident, ignore all this and get a serviceman. Better still, if you can afford it junk the dishlex and buy another machine. Aldi sometimes have them for $300.00!

Hi Shirley and all

Hope your dishwasher handle is fixed but meanwhile hubby should be doing the dishes ... that will speed up the repair process!

Thanks to all others too for the advice on how to open, and how the repair guy should replace the handle.

We have had the same problem. The way we resolved the issue was to use a butter knife to press on the latch that is visable from the top between the door and the main body of the dishwasher. If the door doesnt release it could be that the handle is actually protruding up against the release latch. Make sure that the handle is pulled all the way down a feels free, then using the butter knife, press down firmly on the latch and it should open.
Hope this helps.

I've just had the same problem. I used an ordinary knife to open the door : place the knife on the two pronged latch in a horizontal position and press gently - the door opens, hooray.

To open the door without use of the handle;
where the door seals to the body of the dishwasher and directly behind the handle, if you look down in the gap you will see the mechanism that holds the door shut. If you push this door with a knife blade or screw driver it will pop the door open.
To replace the handle, un plug from the power point, unscrew the screw that hold just the top section of the door to the frame, carefully remove, than uncouple the 2 electrical wires if on this model they attach to the handle mechanism on the inner and unscrew at the 2 screw that hold the handle assemble in place. A new assembly is worth approx $55.00. Reassemble and hey presto, as good as new. make sure you get the correct handle, they are generic across the ranges but there are different types.

We have had the same problem - it is likely to be the spring which you might be able to put back into place by using a slim flat blade and slipping it up in front of the handle to release the spring. If however the door handle housing is broken (which you won't be able to see unless you take the screws off the door to remove the top plastic piece once the door is open!!) ..then you need to pull the handle down as far as you can and forward (assuming one side of internal bracket is broken) and see if you can then pull down on the release trigger to open the door. It's a bit tricky but we did it. We have a global 300 dx300wwi model. You can order a new handle Assy to replace the broken one. We are looking at this site http://www.alliedappliance.com.au/info/A882348006.html you need to look for your exact model though. And I assume this must be the right part as there is only one handle.. I hope!

If you press a screw driver or spoon on the latch which you can see from the top of the dishwasher lid you can open it.
