Fiat Punto 1.7 TD Cam Belt Snapped?

Hi, the cam belt has snapped on my 97 Punto 1.7TD. I was only going about 5 mph when it happened, does anybody think that will still be enough speed to bend the valves?? Or is a full investigation in order? I am a competant mechanic and could no doubt fix the problem myself but just want to know if I risk causing more damage to the engine by fitting another belt and seeing if it will start, regards.

TRY FITTING A NEW BELT BUT TURN THE ENGINE OVER WITH A SPANNER BEFORE YOU TRY TO START IT YOU MIGHT BE LUCKY.
