Chainsaw Stalls?

Hi,

I own a McCulloch Dakota 442 petrol chainsaw.

I can start it from cold. But as soon as I pull the trigger it cuts out. Sometimes if I ease the trigger it will run. However, if I leave it to idle, it will cut out after about 15 seconds.

It is also impossible to start from hot, I have to let it cool down.

I have replaced the spark plug and cleaned the air filter.

Any ideas?

It is running too lean, it may just need carb adjustments, this should be carried out by somebody with an engine taco to check max revs after adjusting, you can adjust the L screw without doing too much damage, turn the screw out 1/4 turn to richen the mixture, if the carb has an anti tamper screw you will need a speciel tool to adjust. If carb adjustments do not cure it then it is a fuel blockage, either the fuel filter in the tamk or in the carb itself.
