my dryer will not start when i turn it on but when i give the drum a little push it starts up can you help.

I would think this is due to the capacitor used for "kicking" the motor to start being faulty.

the capacitor most probably looks like a small cylindrical canister (like a small coca cola can) and is silver in colour.

This is most probably the issue but not sure you are qualified to change it.
I'd contact your local repairer for advice.
