how can i fix my renault megane, 1400 r reg 4 door?

i have a renault megan 1400 r reg, it stalls at low speed and stationary, have had new head gasket fitted and cam belt and fan belt and now i have lost my head lights just got side lights our mechanic has told us it could be the sensors and not to go there is this a big job and expensive if this is the problem at all.

a common fault on these engines is the flywheel sensor. this will need to be confirmed with diagnostic equipment of course, but if it is, then it's not an especially expensive nor complicated job. if it is the flywheel sensor, make sure your mechanic replaces the sensor connector aswell as the sensor itself (just a case of cutting and soldering) as they tend to 'fault' together. both are available from renault.

also, check earthing leads (2 of) on the drivers side of the engine behind the timing cover. these break and again, is a simple repair.

check condition of earth clamp to the negative battery terminal, i had one that had actually broken due to age and corrosion. the battery is under the scuttle panel. bit of a long shot, that one, but i have experienced it.

check your headlamp bulbs, sometimes they blow at the same time!
