Petrol & Oil mix for strimmer?

How do I mix the oil & petrol for my McCullock MT 270 strimmer ? I know it says 1/40 mix but do I mix it in the tank or before it goes in tank?

I usually mix an entire gerry cans worth of fuel at a time and then add the mixed fuel to the tank. Easier to mix a big batch and then you only have to add fuel to the tank as you go. Greg

Mix it before you put it into the tank. I use a plastic syringe to measure out 10 ml of 2-stroke oil (squeeze the plastic bottle so that the end of the syringe is under the oil surface), then squirt it into a clean glass jar. I then make up to 400 ml with petrol. (I've painted a 400 ml mark on the outside of the jar). I give it a good stir with an old stainless steel kebab stick- it takes quite a while for the oil to mix completely with the petrol. Be careful not to get any muck into the mixture (bits of grass, fluff etc.). These will block the carburettor jet and be hard to clean out.
