Take off the screws that hold the starter device and remove from the crankcase.
With the starter device lying flat so you can see the pulley, pull the cord from inside the casing approx 30cm ( 1Ft ) and lift the cord up into the notch in the pulley then slowly let the pulley rotate backwards which will zero it.
Take out the screw in the centre of the pulley and remove it, fasten a new cord to the pulley and wind the cord on approx 3 turns.
Re-assemble the starter pulley so the recoil spring engages then re-fit the central screw.
Thread the free end of the starter cord through the hole in the starter housing and attach the handle with a knot.
With the starter housing again lying flat so you can see the pulley, lift the cord up into the notch on the pulley and then turn the pulley 2 turns clockwise.
Finally check that the pulley can be turned at least half a turn when the cord is pulled entirely out!
