Humming/Whining Noise On Reverse?

Hi There.

I have a Rover 45 Club, its on a 54 plate. When I reverse it makes a humming noise and this happens when I raise up the clutch to biting point.

I have tested out the reverse sensors, and they are fine.

I was told it could be lack of gearbox oil.

I wondered if anyone had any ideas.

could it be exhaust catching somewhere? as engine will move slightly on mounts when clutch at that point.
